During the duration of this project, roughly 6 weeks, I was the lead and only mechanical designer on this automation cell. I had some CAD reference material from a previous project, however, there were many changes as the customer part itself was new giving me the opportunity to do the following:
Tool design - I designed and produced parts and assemblies for all the components that interact with customer parts (left images) in SolidWorks
Overall structure - Reworked the weldment frame of the machine, transferring holes into the tabletop, etc.
Part sourcing - Sourced rollers, pins, sensors, and more from various distributors
Sensors - Repositioned and implemented new sensors to check for part presence, part seated, etc.
Once the design itself was complete, I created dozens of drawings to send out to the shop floor for manufacturing. A few samples are shown below.
